Continental Mk II 1956

Mensagempor JeanFabricio » Ter Set 11, 2012 5:15 pm

(2) CMOA 1978 Vol 1, No 1 - Reprint of an undated and unsourced Newpaper article - "Elvis Presley fans in Denver are willing to pay one buck just to see a 1956 Lincoln Continental once owned by the rock singer. Its present owner Denver auto collector Ken Mausolf, who has a $250,000 insurance policy on the vehicle, displayed it at a shopping center and charged $1 admission."

(3) CMOA 1979 Vol 2, No 6 - Article By Buddy Holiday - "In Volume 1, No 2, (an) ad was printed that the "OLD CARS" of Nov 15 (FORUM NOTE: 1977) showed it to have been sold for $40,000 at Kansas City. It then went to Denver and then I ran a newspaper clipping with it's new owner. It now has a new owner in the person of Jack Hanson of Pasadena, Texas. And it has a new home...on the 7th floor? (FORUM NOTE: In the 7th Floor Ballroom of the 1905 Basin Park Hotel, Eureka Springs, AR) Jack called me on August 7, 1979 and then sent (a) clipping from the Eureka Springs, Arkansas Newspaper."

(4) Carrol County News-August 1979 - ELVIS PRESLEY CAR FINALLY RAISED TO MUSEUM DISPLAY - (Excerpts) The King would have been proud. The white Lincoln Continental said to be the favorite of all the late Elvis Presley's cars was finally hoisted to the top floor of the eight story Basin Park Museum on Spring Street...Houston promoter Jack Hanson had stored the car in Berryville to await the final raising of the vehicle to an upstairs ballroom where it will be shown by admission to museum visitors.

(5) New York Daily News, Monday, August 02, 1999 -"Among the items from the Elvis Presley Museum at Graceland that will go on the block at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas are the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II Elvis in which he drove Natalie Wood and other starlets around Hollywood, his 1956 personal address book, his guitars, footballs and even his pajamas." (FORUM NOTE: As confirmed with the staff at Graceland, the car was not owned by the Graceland Museum, but was on consignment).

(6) THE CONTINENTAL, WINTER 2000 - "The 1956 Continental Mark II that Elvis Presley drove with Natalie Wood by his side now has a new home in Houston, Texas. It was bought for $250,000 at the MGM Grand auction of Elvis Presley memorabilia in Las Vegas, October 8-10,1999. The new owner is "Mattress Mac", whose real names is Jim McIngvale owner of Houston's Gallery Furniture. The car might not fetch $50,000 without the Elvis connection and some would argue that it could use a total restoration or at least much cosmetic work. But the auctioneers expected it would go for $600,000 to $1 million, and the buyer was in total dsbelief when his $250,000 bid by FAX bought the car. He felt that he "stole" the car he later told press reporters."

Catch Elvis Presley's story and treasures at Stockland Baulkham Hills
Well, it’s one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go, cat, go to see Elvis.
Elvis Presley is in the Hills thanks to former Yellow Wiggle and Dural resident Greg Page who has bought Presley’s story and treasures to Stockland Baulkham Hills.
The exhibition opened on April 7 and runs until April 29.
It was, perhaps, a little known fact that Presley was an incredibly generous man, having come from a very poor background. Page said he wanted the exhibition to highlight Presley’s tremendous generosity and that is why all proceeds from the gold coin entry will go to the Salvation Army’s Disaster Relief appeal.
“Elvis would walk down the main street with his manager and give his manager a roll of $100 bills,” Page said. “He would tell his manager to give people a $100 bill. In those days, that would be worth a fortune. “Much is said about Elvis, particularly in his last year, but little is known about his generosity and that’s what this is all about.”
Presley’s generosity is matched by Page who is known for giving back to the community himself.
Page started collecting all things Elvis quite by accident six years ago when the Wiggles were touring America and had a day off in Memphis.
“We had day off in Memphis and everyone was going to tour Graceland,” Page said. “They said ‘come on, we have to do it’. I though ‘yeah’ but went and that was it. I was interested in his music before but did not know the story of the man.
“That visit changed my life.” Page started his collection by buying a cheque signed by Presley in a Gold Coast memorabilia shop. Six years later, there are thousands of items but a pride and joy is the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II which Page has owned for a year after buying it from a private collector.
The Lincoln is now owned by Graceland and will return to America in January to join the other Presley cars at his home. “It is the car Elvis drove Priscilla home in when they married,” Page said.
“It is also the car he drove Natalie Wood in when they dated and the car he drove to the barracks when he registered for the Army.”

(8) 11/8/12 Informação dada pelo membro do fórum Dot Lang - "Elvis's Mark II is again at Graceland - Just got back from a Thunderbird convention in Memphis and had an opportunity to visit Graceland and the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum associated with it. Elvis' MarkII is there on display, looking good. Also a white RR of his."
