A música foi lançada originalmente no CD "Elvis Christmas Album" em 1957 que consequentemente foi o mais vendido em sua carreira enquanto vivo com mais de 7 milhões de cópias.

Take My Hand, Precious Lord ficou mundialmente conhecida pois ela foi pedida para ser cantada por Martin Luther King no dia em que foi assassinado. Até hoje essa música é muito ligada a seu nome e virou um hino. Mais uma vez a BMG poderia usar essa música em propósito de promover a paz e fazer marketing com Elvis mas novamente erraram. Seria um grande single.

Esse hino foi criado por Thomas Andrew Dorsey nascido em 1 de Julho de 1899 e falecido em 23 de Janeiro de 1993.
